Schnauzerfest Rome Brings Beards, Costumes and Halloween Glow |
October 30–31 festivities finish with a light-up Schnauzerween parade down Broad Street |
Downtown Rome is about to get considerably more distinguished in the beard department.
Schnauzerfest Rome 7 returns October 30–31, bringing two days of canine activities and a Halloween finale made for anyone who enjoys a dog in a costume.
The new Schnauzerween Night Parade steps off Saturday at 7 p.m. from Bridgepoint Plaza and travels down Broad Street.
Expect Halloween outfits, glowing strollers and schnauzers dressed for an evening in the spotlight.
For local families, the parade is an easy way to enjoy the celebration without committing to the full festival.
Consider it an extra Halloween treat—one with eyebrows.
Friday: barbecue and introductions
The weekend opens Friday, October 30, at 5 p.m. with a Meet & Greet BBQ at Burk Farm outside Rome.
Bonfires, food and entertainment give visiting schnauzer enthusiasts a chance to get acquainted before Saturday’s downtown activities.
A separate meal ticket is listed at $25 before fees.
Saturday: skills, shopping and schnauzer talent
Saturday begins with float decorating at Bridgepoint Plaza at 11 a.m.
The Forum River Center Arena, 301 Tribune Street, opens at noon for vendor shopping, with scheduled programming beginning at 2 p.m.
Activities include Barn Hunt, Fast CAT racing and the Schnauzer Idol talent competition, alongside rescue organizations, demonstrations and more than 20 vendors.
Whether your dog has impressive skills or simply supervises the household with authority, there should be plenty to watch.
Registration and planning
Dog registration starts at $55 for one dog, with two-dog and three-or-more-dog options also available.
Service fees and an additional online transaction fee apply; check the ticket options carefully before purchasing.
Questions about participation and individual activities can be directed to the organizers.
Then comes the illuminated parade: a fitting finish for a weekend when Rome gives these bearded visitors—and their devoted people—their own turn on Broad Street.
