Rome is getting a little razzle-dazzle this fall, and you won’t have to drive to Atlanta to find it.

Rome High School Theatre brings Chicago: Teen Edition to its Performing Arts Center with October one-act performances and a full-length November run.

Set in the Roaring Twenties, the musical follows Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly through a world where crime, celebrity and courtroom theatrics become tangled together.

Let’s just say these ladies have a rather unusual approach to getting their names in the newspaper.

Director Alexis Tyson, choreographer Hannah Camacho and music director Cody Goss lead the production.

The show offers local audiences a chance to see students tackle a musical that calls for character, comic timing and demanding choreography.

Two chances to catch the show

The abridged production, prepared for one-act competition, takes the stage Wednesday and Thursday, October 21–22, at 7 p.m.

If you want the full-length experience, mark Friday and Saturday, November 20–21, at 7 p.m., or Sunday, November 22, at 2 p.m.

All performances take place at the Rome High School Performing Arts Center, 1000 Veterans Memorial Highway in Rome.

That gives theatergoers a choice: catch the competition cut this month, save a November date for the full musical, or enjoy watching how the production develops across both runs.

A ticket that supports student theater

Admission for every performance is $10 for the general public and $5 for students and staff, with tickets available online and at the door.

Ticket purchases help support the department’s productions and programming.

The production includes sensitive themes and may not suit every audience, so parents should review the show synopsis before choosing it for younger children.

For a fall evening with local talent and a little theatrical mischief, this one deserves a spot on the calendar.
